Fun fact: I made an analysis video on tik tok about Peter Do’s spring 2023 collection and he actually saw it and said thank you and I will never stop talking about it.
However, you should subscribe to my YouTube channel because I feel like fashion and art conversations deserve more than a 15 to 60 second video, you get what I'm saying? more...
Peter Do
known for his minimalist designs
Peter Do is the one New York Fashion Week show that I really drop everything to watch and the team only shows about once a year. Peter dough is a Vietnamese American fashion designer who launched his eponymous brand in 2018. He's known for his minimalist designs that blend traditional tailoring techniques with more contemporary ones and when it comes down to New York Fashion Week, that's a design team that I really look forward to every time ….which inspired personal collection more...

New York Fashion Week
Which Fashion Week is your Favorite?
I have an on and off love for New York Fashion Week. There's times where I feel really excited about the new lineup of designers coming out of New York. But then there's also this predictable dullness that I feel when comparing it to this synergy that I get from researching the design procedures and stories coming out of Berlin, London, Copenhagen. You can't ignore Paris as well. But to each their own. I'd love to know which Fashion Week is your favorite.
I think Copenhagen and London Fashion Week are my favorite because I ended up learning so much more about sustainability and how these young designers are building concepts around their shows and building their brands for the first time. There's so many new designers that I learned about by watching Copenhagen and London Fashion Week, I did see a comment about how New York Fashion Week is now adapting to a new crowd of designers. The big names that really built American contemporary fashion in New York aren't at the forefront as much for New York Fashion Week. Our eyes are shifting over to really interesting new stories happening at time but I think there's a new chapter happening over there as well.more...
Elena Velez
“She was raised by a single mother …that upbringing does influence how she presents femininity and beauty to us on the runway”
One of my favorite up and coming designers on the New York Fashion Week calendar is Elena Velez. And I wanted to get into her philosophy as a designer. Some of the things that she's created so far, and talk about her latest collection.Elena villas is an American fashion designer also CFDA is Designer of the Year for 2022 Originally from Milwaukee, but based in New York City and her work is built off of a few themes and intentions.Being from Milwaukee influences Elena's philosophy as a designer and she mentions that a lot in her work. She was raised by a single mother who is a ship captain on the Great Lakes and she mentioned growing up around shipping docks engine rooms that real all American male dominated industrialism.I mentioned the details of Elena's mother being a single mom because that upbringing does influence how she presents femininity and beauty to us on the runway. When being interviewed.Elena has mentioned that she toils with her mother's image and how it compares to our standards of what is feminine today. She found herself a yearning for her mother to be seen as beautiful. And her Midwestern perspective really highlights the women, men, workers and artists that are often forgotten about in these flyover states. And on the other end of that I'm not sure what the culture is like over in Wisconsin, but I can imagine that she's also bridging a gap of gender, age, race and creative diversity by bringing this movement back home to Milwaukee as well.
Coming back to the subject of beauty standards and reimagining those standards for models.Have no age limitation and her casting is just very compelling and crucial to understanding what her objective is.
She tends to cast bottles from her hometown and commission local artists from the Midwest for her shows. So throughout the brand's ethos there is this recognition for the Forgotten forgotten communities, workers, mothers, women, subcultures, etc.She uses the term geographical decentralization to express the notion that the fashion and art world doesn't just revolve around what's happening in New York, LA Paris, major cities like that. The Midwest have a creative voice as well. The last point that I want to make about her philosophy, you know, her thought process is there's something very maternal about her shows as well. In the fall 2022 collection, the show opened up with this long conservative dress that kind of reminded me of a 19th century night gown there was some evening wear in the show a play on corporate wear a streetwear element to it as well. But then the last model walked out holding a child with this open slit at the mid chest to stomach area. And the entire show just really reminded me of the many cycles the female body adapts to including motherhood. There was a photo of Julia Fox and her son at one of the shows both wearing custom Elena villas I actually didn't think that Julia Fox is a perfect ambassador for the brand. more...
Something more Positive. I’m a Heroine Addict.
By- Rage: My Dirty Little Secret
I guess I’m a heroine addict, cuz I love self-made women. I especially love the ability of giving birth, not to only babies but to gestate and create handmade objects too.I don’t have any children but this collection is my Baby I hand made. And It was born of rage.Hence the name “By- Rage’The symptoms of feeling abandoned by my parents who had me as a teenager but that negative energy has been transmuted into something more positive.A luxury collection infused with the inspiration I love to receive and give.I don’t talk about this collection much because it’s so vulnerable and intimately connected to my soul that ironically I’m afraid of it being reviewed by you!So Cheers to us being….

Jané shares how to create office attire with interesting cuts and fabrics:My first rule is to try to stay away from the traditional route as much as I can. I don't want to wear button down blouses unless the blouses are super interesting. I don't want to be constantly tucking in boring shirts with like basic dress pants just to make sure that I'm looking for interesting shapes and structures that could work in the office space, asymmetrical work and just overall focusing on that silhouette. So here's more...
